I recharged with R12 when I repaired my ac. From what I could read sticking with R12 if you can get it runs cooler. I did change over to Esther oil so that it will mix with R12 or R134. That way I can top up with R134 if required (I don't have much R12 left). I know professionals can't mix the two for lots of reasons but I believe there is no chemical reason if you are using Esther oil as the lubricant.
