Update:
Wow, dodged that bullet and glad we left. We ended up in marina del Rey at the Marriott there. I see why it's so crowed here! The weather is fantastic, the site seeing and people watching is endless and if you like sports cars they're everywhere.
We walked down Venice Beach to Santa Monica Pier the first night and had dinner across from the pier. When then did the hop on hop off bus the next day which took us past Hollywood stars houses, Beverly Hills, Hollywood, Sunset strip, the farmers market and countless other stops. We went back by ourselves to the Beverly Hills area to do some mansion viewing and then got caught in the Golden Globe Awards traffic. Day three took us to Universal studios which lasted most of the day but we stopped on Hollywood Blvd. to grab some goodies and a glimps of Ben Aflack, who was at the Chinese Theater for the premiere of his new movie. Back to San Francisco tomorrow and maybe Muir Woods and then home. Totally jealous of everyone that calls this area home!
