Goodbye Gaia.
Very sorry for your loss, Les.

Sounds like she hit the lottery when she was rescued by you and yours.

Thanks for such a wonderful eulogy and for doing so much for these deserving shelter companions.

When we rescued Billabong back in '06...she had obviously had a rough start to her life, judging by her reserved and cautious personality.

I remember after several years of living in a secure and loving environment - finally - she began to act like a dog. I remember her actually sitting down on the floor for the first time....something she hadn't ever allowed herself to do in quite a few years after her arrival. In time she even learned how to play with toys and now, while still a bit cautious (something she will never grow out of) she seems to be a lot more secure and relaxed.

We all have stories of the journey we take with our furry companions and we also know too well at some point the journey comes to an end. I don't know why we can't just let them go and be satisfied that they had a good life and knew they were loved. The sadness and grief that comes with pet ownership is almost over whelming at times. But I guess if that weren't the case...we wouldn't realize how much they meant to us. And that indeed is a good thing.

Run free Gaia....run free.....
