Sorry to hear of your loss Brian. It is easy to forget how attractive a car is to a thief .
Here in Edmonton many vehicles are stolen coz the keys are left in the car and the engine is running. Also conversely a would be thief is parked close to your car and scans the remote signal to your car when you lock it remotely and go to the store or wherever.

I have been told that manually locking the driver's door does not transmit any signal so it is more securely locked.
