The best sounding CDs are the AAA ones. They are hard to find and can be tricky to play though.

Seriously, those codes (D = digital, A = analog) were notoriously inaccurate.
Even when they were "technically" correct regarding the initial recording medium, final mix-down medium, and final mastering medium, the entire production process was typically much more complex than one could articulate with just 3 letters.
