Now it's starting to look like a dog with some random tags thrown on the collar.

I am hesitant to get in the middle of this now and have decided that we are going to contact a local no-kill shelter, give them all info, and let them have at it. If there is something shady going on, then the dog has a shot at a new family. If the current owners are just dickbags... well, I can't fix stupid.

Somebody on facebook said that she is probably "too old" to get adopted, and would likely just get "put down". Nobody wanted Aunt Eunice when she got old, but we didn't put her down. Is a no-kill shelter the dog equivalent of a retirement home?

She's nice enough to keep (not Eunice), but my germane shepherd does not seem to cotton to the idea.

Thanks for the update Cash.....

Don't let anyone tell you a dog isn't adoptable...that's TOTAL BS and pisses me OFF to NO END when all these freaking "experts" start yabbering on and on like they are the know all to everything DOG!!!!!!!! Just because she's in her twilight years doesn't mean CHIT when it comes to adoption!

I think your plan to contact a local shelter is a VERY prudent one on several levels. Especially when you explain to the shelter folks all the research you have already accomplished (type it all out on paper for them if possible) on trying to track down the owner through rabies tag and chip, etc.

And again....leaving some cash to defray their expenses would be a very generous and accommodating move.

You are smart not to upset the home dynamic with your shepherd. As I said before a yellow lab - even an older one - will adopt fairly quickly and likely end up in a great home, hopefully with kids.

Thanks for all you are doing, man.....
