That's a good question. It's funny how things work out. I obviously never learned how to be parent from my parents. Our son's mother's parents were both alcoholics and so she never knew what a healthy home was. In spite of our ineptitude, our son is successful and well-adjusted. We moved a lot when I was young, so it was pretty common to say goodbye to good friends. Consequently, I never made any lifelong friends. I was aware of that and was determined to keep our family in one place so the kids could make some lifelong friends. All good on that front.
