I've only crashed a bike once. That was in the late '60's coming home on a winding mountain road at three in the morning after a party and some drinking (yeah I know - a recipe for disaster. I was young & invincible at the time). Went to sleep (I think) on a turn. I had a Bell helmet with a face shield. That was before helmets were mandatory. The face shield popped off, but I didn't suffer any injuries. Right now I have both kinds, the full face for when I go for longer rides & the other for short hops to the post office of something similar.
