if you're 25 or older and you have a good driving record, i think a 944 turbo is the way to go. it's likely never again will you need (or have) a car that's any faster, or upgradeable, or fun. they are seemingly getting harder to find, but well worth the wait.
928's look good (well, at least the front end does) and are more comfortable, but expensive to own, even more so than a 944. and like any n/a car, not very upgradeable.
