I think you should stay very far away from that 928. Parts are very expensive and if you do not do your own work, so are Hans and Fritz.
For about $8k, you can get a really nice 951 (944 Turbo) and you will be very pleased with the performance. It's way easier to make big hp with the 951 rather than the 928. Don't get me wrong, I really like the 928 and was looking for one when I stumbled over my 951, which I got for under $6k. There are issues related to maintenance and parts availability with the 928 that are no problem with the 951. Also, I would dare say that in bang for the buck, the 951 is THE BEST deal going in Porsche. Drive one well kept 951 and the--- what was that other car again,..918? 999?? You'll see what I mean. A word of caution, the 951 will cause a permanent grin while driving.
Keep searching, it took me 8 months to find one I liked. On each car, check for maintenance records. Be prepared to travel a bit and if you're not a mechanic, have a shop do a prepurchase inspection for you. Take the list they give you with the costs for the "Do this or Die" items and rethink any starting offer. Drive a bunch of cars, learn the nuances of each model and have a good time looking.
