Maybe the problem is
YOU cannot push with your heel. I have no problem at all with the "rocker switch" direction control. You put your foot on the pedal and press with your toe to go forward or press with your heel to back up. You never have to take your foot off the pedal. No need to switch from one pedal to another. Easy.
