I made a cupholder to fit on top of the center console handbrake cover out of some aluminum I covered with alcantara.

That sounds pretty sweet. Can you post a pic of the cupholder in your car and also out of the car if possible. I am worried about jamming something in those plastic side pockets and damaging it. The door closing thing could be very messy!!
