So many good stories here. Mine is much simpler.
After lusting after 911's since I was a kid in junior high back in the early '70s, I finally decided I could make it happen back in 2011. I sold my very nice 240Z to a guy in Norway, and went shopping for Porsches.
Remember that it was a different market back in 2011. I had 5 or 6 '74-89 911s within driving distance of Eugene to choose from. (These days, there are rarely any at all.) The choice of the car I bought was simple. It was by far the best condition and had the best history of any car in my price range at the time. It had been on the market for a long time, with little interest. My wife and I believe that the problem was the colors. While Chiffon white is widely admired, one of the POs had changed the interior (seats, and panels) from the original brown to a rather sick-looking ivory.
We bought it anyway. The car was just too good otherwise. It has been a great car.
I'm not a real big Chiffon fan, but after upgrading the interior (sport seats, Abarth wheel, square weave carpet and coco mats) during the reversion back to brown, I've decided Chiffon isn't all that bad.
