Noooooooooooooo.
Don't do it!!!!!
I've gone through the same dilemma with my '88.
I kept it, but bought an '06 Cayman S, thinking that I was missing out on something great.
The Cayman is a great car, but it lacks the heart of the old 911's. I suspect that the 996 series would have the same effect. The extra power is nice at first, but wears fast. Since I bought the Cayman, it's dropped to nearly have the price of what I paid! My 911, which I've owned for 11 years is still holding strong. I've decided to rebuild the engine myself, as well as the suspension and other bits. This has really gotten me reenergized.
Just my thoughts.
