On the XPro 1, you set to camera to shoot w/o lens. The camera + manual lens then works in stop down mode. Which works perfectly fine for normal exposures. If you are trying to set the lens to f 22 for an ultra long exposure, then it is a problem, but that's not common for us.

As for the focusing, she has young eyes so not an issue. For me, I either run the lens at a smaller aperture (f 5.6 etc) or if using wide-open, I bracket the focus.
