Owned a '99 TIP and an '01S TIP.
Never happened. I can recall maybe two times the TIP got "confused" but both times I had quickly changed my mind in mid action and it merely got into the wrong gear but within 100 feet it had righted itself and never again.
The TIP is a ZF transmission and is like the same used on other cars. It may sound like heresy but take it to a transmission repair place like AAMCO and see what they think. Even if you don't use them you may learn something. To most dealers, the TIP box is a mystery that they farm out.
