The thing with the bearings is they are good ( seemingly) until they're not. Always best to be proactive and replace it. If it fails, an engine replacement will be twice what the car is worth. Do it, then drive and enjoy the car. There will be more to learn, like cleaning the built up sand and debris between the a/c condensers and the rads, replacing the AOS, coolant reservoir tank, coil oaks, plugs and other more common DIY maintenance items.
If it's an S and you have service records and it looks good, 9 is probably ok. Don't wait on doing the work. You'll put it off and then might regret it. One all done is in the 12-14 range. But for 14, it would have to be VERY NICE.
