Lisa, For the 85.5's and newer 944's there is a large round "Test Plug" mounted on the drivers side fender just in front of the fuse-relay box. There should be several pins (and an LED depending on car year).
You have to jumper between pins B and C to over ride the DME's strong desire to keep adjusting the idle as you try to adjust the idle. Pulling the plug on the idle possitioner will center the IPV but not make the DME happy resulting in some interesting performance quirks.
