Sounds a lot like my current title situation... Take your paperwork to the DMV and they will walk you through the process to obtain a title. For me to do so I have to have a court order and go in front of a judge to prove ownership and they can give the right to issue a new title. You will need to have a bill of sale that shows you purchased it as well as an officer to come out and run the VIN to ensure it wasn't stolen or anything of the sort.
