Hello Fellow Porsche Fanatics,
Is there a more active Cayenne site for info and DIY? This one seems a bit sparsely populated. On the other hand
Porsche Cayenne Forum - Rennlist Discussion Forums
seems a bit more active.
Wondering how costly it is to own a Cayenne, doing general research, thinking of getting a used one ~ around mid-2000 build date, to drive use as a daily driver* and tow my boat 4x per year. Total towing will be very limited :two tows under 10 mi / 35 mph (local tows) and then perhaps 2 tows under 3 hrs each, highway speeds 75 + ; ) no mountain passes, for now. My sailboat is 30 feet by 6'... so it's very narrow, like a tooth-pick, imagine an extra-long canoe, basically, with a huge keel. Total weight is 3,600 lbs not counting the trailer, so, guessing, around 4,400 lbs. all up? Trailer is double axel-ed with surge brakes. Since it is a sailboat the mass is low & centered, very fluid dynamic and hence: aerodynamic and tows very well.
That said, I am not ruling out a pick up truck, although the used ones I like seem to be about the same price as a used Cayenne, purchase price anyway -( perhaps not maintenance prices !?) I would much rather have the luxury and performance of a Porsche than be tethered to a lumbering beast which is no fun to drive. I know there is no sure metric on the annual cost to own a used one, but generally speaking, am I going to love this thing?
* 3/4 of the year I only drive once a week, summer driving is 4 or 5 x per week. I own 4 vehicles right now, so lot's to choose from, with very little usage really. I do 98% of all required wrenching on these cars, which is a huge pain in the ass but very rewarding on many levels. I know first -hand that BMW & Porsche parts are pricey but well made and last awhile. How hard are these Cayenne's to wrench on?
NOTE: Close but I have never owned a vehicle from this century...yet.
