Oxycontin got popular because it was a time release opioid. You could open the capsule, crush the beads inside, and inject them in your arm. They have a different delivery now, so don't try.
Oxycontin is still useful as a short term pain reliever (actually, I think you still hurt, you just don't give a *****). It got a bad reputation when some doctors would prescribe it for longer that the recommended maximum. Don't worry if you take the script at the recommended dose and time. Worry if you ask him for another script and he gives it to you.
