+1 I agree with this assessment, but only after diagnosing what, in fact, is wrong with the engine. I will never pull a 16 valve engine again without doing the head gaskets(unless I know when they were last replaced) and I will never again do the cam tower gaskets without pulling the engine.

Justin, I don't think you are to this point yet.

As far as pulling the center timing belt cover, you will need to remove the vertical oil drain tube bolted to the top of the oil pan and also loosen the power steering pump bracket and remove the alternator. The key to removing the oil drain tube is: upon reinstallation do not overtighten to the point of stripping the 6mm bolts out of the aluminum in the oil pan.
