For retirement, hell yes. I will someday push to downsize once our kids are gone. Though I still somewhat question the shipping container thing. I suspect that you could site build a house that is equally efficient and probably for similar money. I've seen a few shipping containers turned into little hipster shops and they always seem pretty cobbled together. Also for a fun retirement home, an RV of some variety would rock. Keep a home base location and then travel wherever you want.
