thanks linderpat - i'm going to look at the resistor pack today - i replaced that early on in the restoration of this car - but i did replace it with the pack from a 79 so it wasn't new - i'm going to try the bend the coils away from the bi-metal strip method - probably look at the center comb flap while i'm out there
