Since we lived and sailed in both areas, I think I'll be able to answer you. I think we have more fog here in CA, and FL has more rain. FL has more storms and lightning, not good to be out there with a 30-something foot aluminum lightning rod a few feet away from you.
Tornados and hurricanes are kind of a bummer in FL, too. Both areas have days where there's not a lot of wind, or there's way too much! Some of the water around FL is pretty shallow (e.g., intercoastal waterway), unless you're out on the Atlantic. Here, we were in 500+ feet of water when we were a mile or two offshore. Overall, I'd say it's a draw between the two areas. The lower humidity makes this area a bit more pleasant to sail in, and we have migrating whales here, to add to the view.
