Mars lost most of its atmosphere, due to not having a sufficient magnetic field to block solar wind from charging atmospheric molecule and carrying them away.
Unclear how one could recreate an entire planet's worth of atmosphere, but if we did, it would be lost as well.

This is news? Venus also does not have a magnetosphere. The lighter elements (hydrogen and oxygen) have been blown out by the solar wind.
