writers and producers have more time and leeway to take their time to develop thanks to Breaking Bad. When you have a show on your resume like that, the suits are more "accommodating" to letting things play out. Almost every episode has beaten the previous' ratings, so that's the payoff.
That and Vince Gilligan is a master at these types of shows!
I have to wait a couple weeks to start because I get pissed off if I have to wait another week to watch the next episode
