If you're going to really do it and do it once, try to do it right.
I used Infinity Reference 6.5 components. I also sealed the door with dynomat style sealing roll (it was at lowes and really had no smell after install, think I paid $6-7 for a 16ft roll. I bought two and had enough left over to do the entire rear deck area).. This made the biggest difference for the audio quality. I did the inside of the door skin as well to reduce road noise.
I paired the infinities with an amp rated to the max rms the infinities could handle safely. I also made spacers like the ones above out of 1/2inch particle board. It's not hard with a hand held electric band saw.
The only two really painful parts were cutting into the door panel vinyl to locate the hole for the tweeter and having to rewire the window switches. PITA!
I no longer need the rear speakers. The sound is amazing when I want it. For the most part the radio is off as per requests from my son "so he can hear the engine".
