And it is Bob Farmer. My bad. I talked to Bob last year and he did not remember the car specifically and offered the same theories as to the VIN assignment but no definitive answer.

You can't do anything about engine and trans numbers. All you can do is try and find the "hidden vin" somewhere on the car. 930 people will know where these are, I don't. Many of the parts will have the last few numbers of the vin stamped on them. From this, you can probably piece together enough info to get a COA from Porsche and confirm the vin.
As to the motor and trans it will ALWAYS be a guess if they are original to the car.
