I think if the 991.2 GT3 offers a manual transmission, it will slightly decrease the resale value of the 997.1 & .2 GT3's for at least a few years and to a lesser extent the 996 version. I feel that in the long term, say around 5 + years, 996 & 997's prices will rebound and slowly increase in value as people realize the outstanding overall performance & feel the 996 & 997 GT3's offer (and a really good 6 speed manual).

Both 996 & 997 GT3's feature the magnificent Mezger flat 6 engine, hydraulic steering with outstanding feel, and what most drivers describe as a more connected linear chassis feel compared to a 991, which has been described as offering more overall performance but less tactile feedback.

The 996 GT3 has been described by many drivers as very raw & visceral, without driver aids and slightly less weight vs a 997. Many people disdain the 996 looks, but the driving experience seems to win many drivers over. I feel a hardcore group of enthusiasts will always value the 996 GT3's and that their controversial looks will become insignificant to most prospective buyers in the years to come.

The 997.1 version has a SR and normal lug rims whereas the .2 version had no SR and center lock rims. The .2 version has been generally regarded as having better chassis setup and it has slightly more power. I also recall a 997.2 GT3 owner once saying he could not find a nice 997.1 so he "settled" for a .2 (he wanted a SR). Some drivers have offered that they liked the slightly "nervous" feeling of the .1 vs the .2, and some say they prefer the updates and chassis feel of the .2. I think there will be buyers for each version. I want a .2, but I don't want the center lock rims. I could be happy with a .1, but I don't care for a SR. I don't think I can get past the 996's looks.

Time will tell, I want to snag a 997.2 GT3 in a few years. I hope my timing is good enough to nab one before a value spike. If I had access to the funds, as soon as a nice one became available for under $100k, I would buy it. I doubt they will go much lower than $100k - if they even go that low. Sorry for being long winded, I really want one of these fantastic machines...
Well I hope prices come down enough for you to grab one! It was a tough decision for me to drop that much coin on a car but I've not regretted it in the least.

The production numbers are fairly low IMO. They made 916 US model 997.1 GT3. And then around 657 US model 997.2 GT3. Those are the regular, non RS car.

They are now 10 years old....I don't think there is much downside depreciation but only time will tell!
