I have seen failed ones, usually due to
Overheating from a short downstream.
Here is a photo to show a dash harness under construction and the multitude of different wire combinations in the bulkhead connectors.
The one in the foreground is the ignition switch connector. Not a '69, but similar enough to illustrate what is going on in a dash harness.
