For Lubey: GL-5 in a GL-4 Transmission?
There are so many opinions on the internet, not sure who is correct. Some people claim GL-5 damages 'yellow metal', i.e. synchros. Some people say it makes no difference, GL-5 can go in a GL-4 gearbox with no issues.
so, is it okay to 'upgrade' and old manual transmission and use GL-5 when GL-4 is called out in the service manual?
I'm pretty sure I have a GL-5 in my '89 911 and I suspect GL-5 did not exist in 1989, but this question for an older VW Jetta.
