Going to a college (or trade school) and getting a degree does not a mechanic make.
There is a bit of genetic wiring that has to be in place to use the spatial relationships involved. I've seen solid gold engineering graduates that could not design themselves out of a wet paper sack. Then you get some poor sot in whose family financials barely got him through high school with an uncanny sense of trouble shooting and dead on solutions.
Go figure.
