My daughter-in-law is a leader in the local pitt bull rescue, but they rescue any breed of abused dog. You would not believe the things people do to their animals. She currently has a male German Police dog that was set on fire along with its female kennel mate. The female was burned so badly they put her down. The male survived with serious burns on the back half of his body, especially his groin. Burning seems to be a favorite form of torture among animal abusers.
The guy who set this dog on fire was arrested and jailed, unfortunately, the law is very lax on this crime.
In Ohio, it is a fifth-degree felony to knowingly cause serious physical harm to a companion animal, punishable by six months to a year in jail and a $2,500 fine. This includes depriving a pet of food, water or shelter or inflicting long-term pain.
$2500 and a year in jail for setting a dog on fire is a slap on the wrist.
