All I can say is that I'm ecstatic that I was able to get my 997.1 GT3 when I did a few years ago. It's my 22nd Porsche since my first one 45 years ago and it is an epic Porsche in every respect. These cars require an enthusiast who appreciates a hardcore, relatively rare true sports car. It has very stiff suspension, a very heavy clutch and, as has been mentioned previously, a REAL Motorsports-derived engine that is pretty much bulletproof and screams like a banshee in the upper RPM ranges. The 996 and 997 GT3's are the real deal and because of their relative rawness, aren't every Porsche owner's cup of tea.
IMO it is conceivable that the 997-era GT3's - especially the RS versions that were outside my budget - just might be the "1973 Carrera RS" of the future due to their uniqueness and relative rarity. Outside of SoCal or the Bay Area, how often do you encounter one?
I could care less about it's future value. I almost sold it last year and ended up relieved that a pair of "sure thing" deals imploded. This one is likely my forever keeper....unless an affordable RS materializes!
