I agree with JFP in PA, but I will note that the one and only time my 2003 986S poured a ton of oil out was when the IMS bearing let go. You say the car was sputtering -- did you hear a metal on metal sound? In my case that was the valves meeting they pistons. Get it up on a lift, but after putting it on a flatbed.
