I had a Boxster that I swapped a 996 3.6 engine into. Was no issue to etest it as a 'hotrod' as it just had to meet emissions specs for a pre-1980 vehicle which it did easily. If I recall there are differences based upon the model year of the vehicle into which the swap was done.
