I'd have to say those two engines are very close, I would guess you can run them both of the same OE engine management systems and most common wrenches would never even know the difference.

Puddy's talking about putting an 930 aircooled turbo engine in a 996. Totally different animals. The big tell would be when they try to plug into the OB2 port for an emissions test.
For emissions all they do now is plug in the OB2 and look for codes, if the codes are obviously wiped it's a fail.
