The pricing for Tesla's solar roof is being hailed as much lower than expected. However, when I plug my address into the estimator
https://www.tesla.com/solarroof it still looks like solar on my roof is a financial loser.
"$12,300
Net cost over 30 years"
I've periodically checked the numbers over the past ten years, and I've never found that it makes financial sense for me.
But then again, I live in Portland Oregon where there is relatively less sunshine and electricity rates are low (about $0.11 kwH).
How about some of you in sunnier or higher-electricity-price areas? Plug your address in and let's see if anyone gets a net cost that is negative (i.e. a net gain).
