can, but that doesn't mean it does. If you drive it like you stole it, do so regularly and do regular oil changes, there shouldn't be any sludge problems. But then I always changed my oil after a spirited drive, while it was still scalding hot, and I never let it go past the recommended interval. My oil always looked new coming out.
