Some updates for you: I found an extremely competent mechanic near me and did some modifications to the bike.
The water injection was removed (completely unnecessary).
The original Garrett Turbo was rebuilt and water-cooled instead of oil cooled, using a small heater core and water pump mounted to the rear of the bike.
Wastegate spring was replaced and reduced to 7 lbs.
Fuel management replaced with a Techlusion unit which works surprisingly well. Adjustable pressure valve replaced with much more robust unit.

All of this was done to make the bike a much more reasonable and reliable unit and not something that was aspiring to race at Bonneville.

And of course, in retrospect, the entire project is pointless because of all the wonderful bikes you can go out and buy today which are close to 200 hp in stock form, including the S1000RR.
But that's in the Land of Hindsight, where everyone is a genius.

Cheers!
This has been cracking to read! And most informative in conjunction with the RB page, good work for putting up with you bike away from you for FIVE years...!!! Actual hero.

A couple of questions that I'd love to hear more about;

- Do you have a diagram or details of the original oil cooling layout? Was the return from the turbo tapped into the sump?

- Why did you go for water-cooling of the turbo instead of the original oil feed?

- Has this a separate ECU controlling timing (to stop pre detonation?) or was it the BMW system with the Techlusion just added on for fuel?

- What size/model of Garrett is it?

I'm very interested in this as I'd like to do something very similar and it'd be most helpful to have a baseline of what has been done already!

You Sir are a pioneer.
