Didn't say that we don't love guns like those as well, and since we've had, many, many threads here on exactly this same subject, I can tell you that lots of folks suggest small revolvers fairly regularly (actually, didn't Vash suggest one a few posts up?). Those are actually pretty good, they go bang every time you pull the trigger until you've used up all of the bangs, they can be had with a very short barrel, fairly small grip and can even be had with frames made of very lightweight alloys.
A 1911 is a big, heavy gun. As far as carrying and concealing a gun, big and heavy usually make the job more difficult or more of a pain in the rear. You can get shorter slide 1911 variants, and I think there may be some that use an allow for the frame with a steel slide.
Plastic guns are lighter (plastic vs steel). That helps.
