OP asked for tools to keep in the car.
What are you realistically going to fix on the side of the highway?
I keep:
1) Fuses
2) DME Relay
3) Fan belt, pulley tool, and the wrench (all in toolkit)
Besides that, I make sure my towing plan is paid up.
Headlamp is a good idea
