The VW sourced VR6 engine is a beauty. My 94 VR6 Golf has been brilliantly reliable over 14 years!
It's never been opened up but it does need valve guide seals now. (340,000 kms)
I wouldn't pay any attention to the negative forum comments about these engines.
But don't delay the oil/filter changes.
