Thanks your thread reminded me to wind my clocks! I'm with you and your wife. It's not the most attractive clock I've ever seen.
As far as the cleaning tab that does seem high. Sounds like Chelsea. I have a ships clock they want $500.00 just to look at the thing. I took that and another clock to a shop in Lancaster Pa. He does amazing work and very inexpensive. I think the Chelsea cleaning, (and a spring had broke), was under $300.00. Shop around.
