There are some modern tires out there that mean 245 can be enough. My buddy's 600HP beast has a ***** of a time breaking his 245 Bridgestone RE11s loose, even with a 5 speed G50.
For the fronts, I prefer the narrowest tire I can run. I'll pay more for grippy compound that allows for a narrow contact patch and telepathic, light steering.
I'll take 175 Avon CR6ZZ tires on 4.5 Fuchs over just about any front combo for grip and feel.
