Since I live in a suburban area, I usually have the option of grabbing an end row spot, even if it means walking a bit, I don't mind. In inclement weather, I just offer my passengers the opportunity to be dropped off at the door while I hunt for door-ding free parking.
It's been a success so far, except for the #!@#!$@#$!@# CRV that forgot to set the e-brake. Not really a door ding, though.
