The hose clamp screw (lower left center of big pic with a bit of red on it) that snugs up the hose clamp can apparently get hung up on the throttle mechanism at theta of the engine. OP can correct me if I'm not describing the issue accurately.

Thanks for the explanation. I read the original post several times but was thinking about the coupler to be in the second picture. Now, it is much clearer and could easily visualize the problem the OP was saying.
