There is usually a mode that corrects it but why it never appears to be the default is baffling.

Sounds like you and Denis like slow refresh rates. Movies have been 24 fps for a very long time. Amazingly, Sony's Motionflow will interpolate and extrapolate 9 frames (between two movie frames) and output 240 fps.
Yeah, I get it; movies shouldn't look like real life. They need to be clicky frames, and btw
