He is definitely a herding dog. He ‘herds’ our 5 year old Bengal cat – who is very surprisingly extremely tolerant of him. He loves harassing her so we often have to step in. Shelties are essentially smaller, somewhat calmer versions of Border Collies that were bred for work in the Shetland Islands. They can be timid if you don’t socialize them frequently.

We are crate training him but benignly. He is essentially already house trained but not to the point that we can trust him yet & he has always successfully slept all night. A great pup so far.
